Intercession Defined

Intercession may be defined as: "praying on behalf of others, under the power and direction of the Holy Spirit, knowing that there will be divine results".

Now the "somebody" may be someone near or dear to you.  You care much about his present welfare and his eternal well-bging.  So you are earnestly and urgently praying for him.

On the other hand, the "somebody" may be someone you don't even know personally - someone who lives in a far, foreign country.  Perhaps, the "somebody" may be a missionary in that country.

Intercession is praying with the guidance and help of the Holy Spirit.  The Apostle Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit is ready to help us when we don't know exactly how or what to pray (Rom 8:26,27).

Many matters are far beyond our understanding.  At such times, it is a comfort to know that we have a Helper who will direct our prayers according to God's Will.

The Holy Spirit will not only direct our prayers but will also "prompt" our prayers.  There are times when God will bring certain peoplle to our mind.  We should take such thoughts and impressions seriously.  It it the voice of the Spirit saying, "Pray for this person, and pray for him now".  This is your divine call to intercession.  Don't put it off.
