Resist The Devil

"Resist the devil and he will free from you." (James 4:7)

Many people have the wrong idea concerning the word "Resist".  The word does not mean to dismiss or ignore Satan.  It rather refers to active combating our enemy.  This is not a task to be taken lightly, knowing that our enemy is a cunning and relentless adversary.  He will decieve us through lewd temptations or fiery darts

Great men of God like Job, Joshua, Daniel, David and apostle Paul were not immune to the wiles of the devil.  Even Christ, the Son of God was tempted by Satan in the wilderness.

Satan wants to keep us from fulfilling the purpose for which we were created.  He wanted to keep us from using the power of God to over his attacks.  He wanted to keep us under his control.

But praise be to God.  We are believers and we are spiritually commissioned and empowered.  We have the power to live a victorious, fruitful and godly lives.  We have the power to neutralise them at all cost.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Eph 6:12)

Spiritual strength and courage are needed for our spiritual warfare and suffering. Those who would prove themselves to have true grace, must aim at all grace; and put on the whole armour of God, which he prepares and bestows. The Christian armour is made to be worn; and there is no putting off our armour till we have done our warfare, and finished our course. The combat is not against human enemies, nor against our own corrupt nature only; we have to do with an enemy who has a thousand ways of beguiling unstable souls. The devils assault us in the things that belong to our souls, and labour to deface the heavenly image in our hearts. We must resolve by God's grace, not to yield to Satan. Resist him, and he will flee. If we give way, he will get ground.

"Every time we say no to temptation, we become stronger."

Consecrate Yourselves To The Lord

"Consecrate yourselves today to the Lord." (Exodus 32:29)

For Moses had said To the Levites, when he first gave them their orders:
consecrate yourselves today to the Lord;

 devote yourselves to his service, by obeying his orders, slaying those, or the heads of them, who have cast so much contempt upon him as to worship the golden calf in his room; and which would be as acceptable to him as the offerings were, by which Aaron and his sons were consecrated to the Lord; and as these Levites were consecrated to his service this day, on this account:

[even] every man upon his son, and upon his brother;
not sparing the nearest relation found in this idolatry, and for which the tribe of Levi is commended and blessed in the blessing of Moses, ( Deuteronomy 33:8Deuteronomy 33:9 ) and as it follows, that he may bestow a blessing upon you this day;
which was their being taken into the service of God to minister to the priests in the sanctuary, to bear the vessels of the Lord, and for their maintenance to have the tithes of the people: this day was, according to the Jewish writers F19, the seventeenth of Tammuz, or June, on which day the Jews keep a fast upon this account.

That I might live for the purpose for which you created me, Lord. I consecrate myself to do your will this year.

That I might seek your will through your word. I consecrate myself to read, meditate and DO your written will this year, Lord.

That my plans this year might be set around God’s will for my life. I consecrate myself this year to seek you and your way of doing things, Lord.

That I might actively walk with the Holy Spirit this year. I consecrate myself to have an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit this year through prayer, worship, reading His word in times of meditation and solitude.

That I might live a life of holiness and separation this year. Lord, I consecrate my mind, my body, my thoughts to you this year. Help me to walk in your grace and live a live in purity and separation from all defiling things.

That I might serve you and worship you with my mind, my talents, my time, my gifts this year. Lord, I consecrate my energy and my time to you; by your grace, I will serve you and expand your Kingdom with my intellect and my industry.

That I might share my wealth, my substance with you Lord this year. Lord, I consecrate to you my money and my resources. I choose to bring my tithes and love offerings to you to help expand your Kingdom and to take care of the helpless and the needy.

"The root of all steadfastness is in consecration to God." (Alexander Maclaren)

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." (Psalm 23:4)

Deep hollow between mountains; a low land flanked on both sides by high lands.

It always has deep waters, streams, and wells flowing through. Shepherds love valleys because of the green grass growing there that can be good food for their flocks. The fact that it is flanked by mountains on both sides shades if from direct sunlight; covered by the shadow of the mountains. The height of the mountains could impose darkness on the valley; at day time and the prevailing temperature will be very cool. As cool and good as the valley, it is a place where terrible animals are found. Animals like bears, wolves serpents, etc. because they like the atmosphere of the valley. It could be in a valley that David fought with bears and lions and he won because the Lord was with him.

In the valley, there could be thunderstorms and flood and rocking’s falling from the mountains. As cool as the valley is, it could be very dangerous.

“Though I walk trough the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.”

A person could be passing through the valley of sickness, financial loss, frustration, marital turbulence and disgrace, dishonour and the most dangerous one is the valley of the shadow of death.

Shadow
A figure produced from the blockage of light by another figure. It is not the real thing, it is a representation of it. The shadow of a dog cannot bite because it is not the real animal. The shadow of a serpent cannot bite. The shadow o f a gun cannot kill. No matter how dark a shadow could be, it reminds one of the presence of light because it is when light is shielded, that a shadow is produced.

Thanks to the lord for the preservation of your life. Many of the places you have passed through, are valleys of the shadow of death. You passed through those places because the Lord is with you.
"Through days of toil when your heart does fail God, God will take care of you;When dangers fierce your path assail, God will take care of you." (C D Martin)

The Lord Is My Light And My Salvation

The Lord is my light and my salvation." (Psalm 27:1)

Fear start in our lives when we were young.  We were afraid of darkness, monsters and things unknown to us.  It continued into our teenage years with fears of failure, rejection and humilation.  It goes on into our adulthood with fears of financial problems, broken relationships, death, anxiety, diseases and old age...and the list goes on.

Fear is very unpleasant and it is very harmful physically, mentally, and even spiritually for as the Bible tells us in Matthew 13:22, fear or anxiety chokes out the word of God. Fear can be very displeasing and dishonoring God if we do not respond to it with faith in him. As the Bible says we will have anxieties but we are to "cast all of our anxieties on him." We all want solutions to the fear problem. We all want answers to anxiety. We are looking for something to relieve us from our fears, something to reassure us. We’re looking for some source of security that will instill a perfect confidence and peace within our hearts.

In the name of Jesus, I refuse to fear, because God has not given me the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
