The Word of God is creative

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made,.... The aerial and starry heavens, and the heaven of heavens, the third heaven, the seat of the divine Majesty, and the habitation of angels and glorified saints; these were "made" even out of nothing, not out of any pre-existent matter, nor were they eternal; and being made are creatures, and so not to be worshipped, neither they nor their hosts after mentioned; angels, sun, moon, and stars; these were made by the Word of God, the essential Word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, who often goes by this name, John 1:1; and very fitly agrees with him, who spoke for all his people in the council and covenant of grace, and undertook to be their surety; is the Word spoken of by all the holy prophets since the beginning of the world; is the interpreter of his Father's mind and will, of which he must be capable, since he lay in his bosom; and now he speaks for his saints in heaven, whose advocate he is; and especially he may be so called because he so often spake on the six days of creation, and said, let this and the other thing be, and it was so; and to him, as the Word of God, is the creation of all things frequently ascribed, John 1:1, Hebrews 11:3, and particularly the heavens, Hebrews 1:10. This is a proof of the deity of Christ, and of the dignity of his person; and shows how fit he is to be the Saviour of men; how safe the saints are in his hands; and that he ought to be trusted in, adored, and worshipped;

God's Special Book

The Bible is indeed a supernatural book – God’s special book.  It was written by many different people under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16).

The Bible is the world’s best seller.  It consistently outsells any other book.  It has also been translated into more languages than any other book in the world.  It was originally written in Hebrews, Aramaic and Greek.  Although it is one of the oldest book in the world, the Bible is still most relevant and modern; for in it we find answers to life’s greatest questions:

·         “Where did I come from?”
·         “Why am I here?”
·         Where will I go?

The Bible is divided into two sections, namely the Old Testament and the New Testament.  It comprises 66 smaller books and has only one central theme focussing on God’s loving plan to rescue mankind.

The Old Testament gives an account of God’s work with His people before the birth of Jesus.  The New testament gives us an account of Jesus’ birth, His Life, His great ministry of healing and forgiveness, His death on the cross, His resurrection and His ascension (going back to Heaven).

 

Psalm 34:10

"The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing." (Psalm 34:10) The young lions do lack and suffer hunger - That is, they often do it, as compared with the friends of God. The allusion is especially to the "young" lions who are not able to go forth themselves in search of food. Perhaps the idea is, that they are dependent on the older lions - their parents - for the supply of their needs, as the pious are dependent on God; but that the result shows their reliance to be often vain, while that of the pious never is. The old lions may be unable to procure food for their young; God is never unable to provide for the wants of his children. If their needs are in any case unsupplied, it is for some other reason than because God is unable to meet their necessities. The word "lack" here - רושׁ rûsh - means to be poor; to suffer want; to be needy: Proverbs 14:20; Proverbs 18:23. But they that seek the Lord - That seek Him as their Friend; that seek His favor; that seek what they need from Him. "To seek God" is a phrase which is often used to denote true piety. It means that we wish to know Him; that we desire His friendship; and that we seek all our blessings from Him.  Shall not want any good thing - Any real good. God is able to supply every need; and if anything is withheld, it is always certain that it is not because God could not confer it, but because He sees some good reasons why it should not be conferred. The real good; what we need most; what will most benefit us - will be bestowed on us; and universally it may be said of all the children of God that everything in this world and the next will be granted that is really for their good. They themselves are often not the best judges of what will be for their good; but God is an infallible Judge in this matter, and He will certainly bestow what is best for them.
